Scrub Island British Virgin Islands Wildlife Conservation
Surely, Columbus marveled at the abundant wildlife found on Scrub Island BVI so long ago. His original vision is alive and well today, thanks to our many wildlife conservation and propagation programs. Our resident biologist lovingly manages these programs, many of which, our guests can participate in.
• We provide nesting sites for the four birds of prey species native to Scrub Island.
• Two species of indigenous bats are critical to the ecosystem of the island. We provide bat houses for their protection.
• Several unique species of cactus, palms, and vines are indigenous to Scrub Island BVI. They are cultivated and propagated to enhance the beauty of the property.
• For our local endangered sea turtles, we conduct a propagation program, nest recoveries, educational programs, and hatchling releases.
Thanks to the resort’s discrete video cameras, guests can monitor birds’ nests, bat houses, and the turtle hatchery from flat-panel displays in their quarters.
Our biologist also conducts exhilarating eco tours to a nearby national park where the plentiful sea life can be seen through a one- or two-person glass-bottom kayak.
